Starring Herds of Buffalo that roamed the prairies
World Premier of Andrew Balfour’s Oscana,
 a
multimedia
extravaganza takes place in Conexus
 Arts
 Centre, Regina,
 on
 September
3,
2010.
OSCANA has four movements. First movement: a musical multimedia painting of life
on
 the
 prairies
500 years back, before
 the
 Europeans
arrived, before the horses arrived, before the guns arrived on
 the
scene. The music featuring herds of buffalo stampeding across the prairies. Regina Symphony playing the challenging music of Andrew Balfour, under his direction. The piece will try to create an "earth shaking sound” that was created by the stampeding buffaloes.
Second
movement
will paint
 the
picture
 of
the arrival of the Europeans, the
signing of the treaties between Queen Victoria and the Chiefs. A bag pipe, part of the enhanced Regina Symphony Orchestra, will herald in Queen Victoria. Aboriginal drum will herald in the Chiefs.
Third movement will paint the confused life on the prairies, two societies adapting to each other, learning from one another, and adapting to the harsh environment. Arrival of the steam engine, disappearance
of
the
 buffalo
and
 the
 life of the pioneers.

The
 fourth movement
will paint optimism of the life on the prairies today.
The
 funds
saved
 in
 this
 project
 will
go
 to
into a trust fund, which will be used to inspire youth through music. Bringing optimism into their lives.
